Back-To-School Tips For Parents To Maintain Their Child’s Health

With the on-going covid-19 pandemic scenario, schools across the globe have been imparting online education to students for months now; Corpus Christi private schools are no exception. Besides stocking school supplies, parents will have to prepare kids when schools reopen. Many children suffer from low immunity levels, making them susceptible to viruses and infections. When kids go to school, the problem aggravates as they mingle with their peers, touch unhygienic places, carrying germs along with them.

Before the new inning kick-starts, we would like to educate parents through this blog to encourage good habits and take preventive measures for their kid's safety.

Follow these steps to keep your child fit and healthy:

1) Inculcate Good Hygiene Habits

Our elders and health professional have advocated the importance of handwashing for ages. By washing hands, we can get rid of the germs that reside on our hands. These germs seek entry into our body when we touch our eyes, nose, or mouth with our hands. So when kids fail to wash their hands properly, they invite respiratory disorders like flu, common cold, or influenza.

Sometimes kids wash their hands but, they do it hastily. So train them to sing the alphabet or happy birthday song till the end, which will take them the precise amount of time they need to wash their hands. Ask them to rub the fronts and backs, the in-between of their fingers to throw all the germs away. Sanitizers have become so very popular; thanks to Covid-19. When soap is not available, they can use sanitizers. Don't forget to put a small bottle in their backpack.

Give them a tissue packet to wipe their hands after washing. If they need to cough or sneeze and the tissue is not handy, ask them to so in the crook of the elbow or sleeves. This habit will prevent the spread of germs.

Kids are careless; they keep touching everything around them. Especially children who are more prone to falling ill must wash their hands more frequently. You don't want to rush to the doctor now and then. Besides handwashing, teach them to brush twice a day, trim their nails, and shower thoroughly. These health routines go a long way to maintain your child's health.

2) Regular Health Check-ups

Parents must take their little ones for annual health check-ups to ensure that they are healthy. Besides this, giving vaccines according to the regimen is one of the best ways for long-term health. There may be controversies relating to immunization, but it is the safest and effective preventive measure against many ailments.

3) Emphasize Physical Activities

When at school, children are sitting still most of the time. Experts recommend that an hour of physical activity daily is a must for their mental and physical well-being. Most schools try to give importance to physical activities in the curriculum. The Annapolis Christian Academy in Corpus Christi believes strongly in striking a good balance between academic and physical activities. As parents, when they get back home, make a routine that involves outdoor play. Ask them to lend a helping hand with the home chores. Another concern is controlling their screen-time. Because sitting glued to the screen is not going to make them physically active.

4) Early Bedtimes

To stay fresh and active kids need at least 10-12 hours of sleep. In contrast, adults can do with a minimum of 8 hours. If you tug your child late in bed, it will inhibit their growth and health. Moreover, chances are that they will wake up in an unpleasant mood. Keep all your chores aside; cleaning, watching a movie on Netflix, etc. First, put your child to bed at a good time and ensure that you don't let them sleep till the very last moment. Or else you will have to rush them up to school without a healthy breakfast.

5) Balanced Diet

A balanced diet is quintessential to ensure that the child gets the required nutrition for proper growth and development. Regular mealtimes and healthy snacks can be an ideal way to keep diseases at bay. Keep junk food out of the basket, replacing it with fruits and veggies to provide essential vitamins and minerals. Kids love pizzas, pastries, and all that is not good for them. Let them have a treat once in a while, but don't let them get into this habit. They can have long-term impacts on the child.
